Another Tribute to MC Escher

It has been very eventful now that I have finally been out of the navy for well over a year and I am officially nearing the completion of my first year enrolled at the Art Institute of Seattle.  Although this is not a requirement for Industrial Design students, I am going to embrace this tasking with all the passion and verve that I normally put forth in my work.  I figured for my first post, I would actually post something a little different to inspire the minds of all my fellow classmates.

My favorite artist throughout history is M.C. Escher.  I enjoy detailed illustration, photorealism and surrealism, therefore Escher is just my cup of tea.  Anyway, I would like to show you a clay model design that I rendered for my second project in Clay Model Making that was very Escher inspired.

I wanted to render the three basic shapes as 3-dimensional objects and still capture the effects of shadow and form.  I also wanted it to feel like an actual illustration to detail shading on 3-dimensional objects.

Another reason I have always been a fan of Escher and his work is the use of contrast, shading techniques and line weight to present a composition rather than the use of color.  Unfortunately, I suffer from a minor case of color-blindness as a large percentage of adult males, so I prefer the application of techniques that can be used in grayscale compositions vice fully-colored renderings.  Anyway, here is another Escher inspired piece that incorporates my silly wit with my desire to become a branding magician.

I hope that you enjoy the puns that I built into the graphic illustration.  Maybe one day as an industrial designer, I can develop a product like the Escher-Sketch.  I might have to fight for some copyrights on the name though...
