PAX Prime - An Opportunity to Meet Markiplier and Be A "Hero Dad"
So it has been a little while since I have made a post on my blog, and I wanted to get to somewhat of a interim completion point on one of my personal projects before I made a full post on it.
As you as know, if you have read some of my previous posts, I had the opportunity to go to PAX Prime because I was able to represent my school, the Art Institute of Seattle, by designing and constructing a major part of our booth for the venue. Anyway, one of the days that I was going to be an exhibitor at the event, I was informed by my children that Markiplier, a YouTube gamer with a large fan base, was going to be there giving autographs.
Knowing the amount of people that would be at PAX Prime, I realized that getting Markiplier's autograph for my kids might truly be a difficult task. My design problem... Illustrate or design something that would possibly get noticed amongst the extreme commotion of the fans. I had to read up on this individual to find out who he was and create something that would be an obvious unique signature piece.
Several ideas came out of my research: Pink moustache, Tiny Box Tim, retro and PC gaming, humor and wit, Press "B" to blow...
The results:

So a night of hard work utilizing my trusty Zebra F-301 skills resulted in these. I went to PAX Prime the next day armed with my illustration, another illustration that my daughter, Brittaney, had drawn for Mark, and a letter that my son, Zachery, had written for him.
Amazingly while standing at the desk of the Polaris booth, I was able to stop Markiplier dead in his tracks to sign the illustration, and I got a pic too...
The story starts to evolve more from this point. I realized that this quick little meeting can grow to something much more. I appreciate the power of exposure, and I realize that this young man, Markiplier, not only has a huge fan base on YouTube, but definitely seems to want to do good things with "said" exposure. With my power of illustration, I want to promote story-boarding and informational design, but I also want to bring fun and entertainment to the masses as well. Anyway, at this point, I realized that this graphic I made, could actually be a cute little comic strip. So I created this.
So the bottom line is... I had an opportunity to meet Markiplier, but now I do not have a way to reconnect with him easily to show him the comic strip I made of him. I would ask all my friends, family, and individuals that have been following me via Facebook, Google +, or directly on any of my Insanity-Print and Publish websites, if you see this... Share it... and reshare it, and post it anyway and anywhere, that I might be able to reconnect with Markiplier. Ultimately, I just want to illustrate the world, so...
