The Bill Plympton FlickerFrame Tribute

Image
So here is a collaboration I did with an animator that I connected with via LinkedIn and Facebook.  His name is Mike Schneider and he was working with other animators to make a homage piece for Bill Plympton where he connected with several illustrators and animators (including me) to generate a frame for a flicker frame portion of a full-length animation.  Here is a little more information about the project on this link: http://yourfaceflickerframe.culturalspot.org/ Here is the completed portion and explanation that was posted by Mike on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3iToGzwB9I And lastly here is the frame that I designed: Unfortunately, it seems the animators that were supposed to create the final animation did not complete the project.  Oh well, at least I had a good time creating it.

Aesthetic Drafting

Image
So this quarter at the Art Institute of Seattle, I am enrolled in a course called Custom Furniture Design.  One of our projects is to draft out a piece of furniture in our own home.  I decided to take this project from a little different approach in that I believe if a woodworker or other type of craftsman is going to take the painstaking hours to design and create a beautiful piece of custom furniture, the same amount of respect should be given to that piece when you display it on a draft.  Here is my take on creating what I will call for now, "Aesthetic Drafting".

ZEBRA pens - I Found My Zen

Image
Here are some of the ink drawings that I have been developing in a concept sketch book using Zebra STEEL pens.  When I do my ink work, I use only Zebra STEEL pens (F-301s and F-701s).  I recently contacted Zebra via Facebook and showed them my work on the Insanity-Print and Publish Facebook business page ( https://www.facebook.com/insanitypnp ).  They liked it so much that they decided to send my some pens for my continued dedication and patronage of their product.  Anyway, here is the work that has been further developed from sketches.  Remember everything is done with ink (Zebra pens to be precise).

PAX Prime 2015 - Booth/Element Concepts

I have already posted the presentation that I constructed for my Exhibition and Trade Show class, but I wanted to post the illustrations that are incorporated into the presentation so you can get a better look at them.  When I did the presentation, I handed out a portfolio with all the original illustrations in it, so my audience could peruse the spread while I was explaining my design process and ideation. Rhino's Rhinos/Mini-Light Sabers/Porta-Jet Oven

Image
Here is the latest and greatest.  It's finals once again at the Art Institute and I have been busting my rump to get my final projects finished for Product Design and Rapid Prototyping.  Needless to say, I have been having to do a lot of modeling from sketch models and paperfolding to CNC work and 3D prints.  I honestly wish I had a little more time on my hands to do more detail work, but it is better to finish with a decent project than to shoot for the moon and have nothing to show for it.  Anyway, here are some photographs of various projects. Using Rhinoceros 4.0, I made some rhinos out of bristol (no adhesives could be used)... I call them, "Rhino's Rhinos." This was also done in Rhinoceros.  We had to design a shelled object.  I decided to make a business card holder that I had 3D printed on our Makerbots at school. So this is my final for Rapid Prototyping.  I used the flashlight concept sketches that I did in Pro...

Porta-Jet Oven Concepts

Here is some more fun with product design.  Here is a general synopsis of the "interviews" that I conducted with several of my classmates and other random students at the school and the run-down of the findings. Concept:  Incorporate the use of a convection (JetStream/NuWave) oven with that of the traditional camping stove.  The result would be a portable stove/oven used for camping that provides easier clean-up and reduces safety concerns of butane bottle use. Upon initial analysis, the question was to evaluate the need for an item of this manner, since there are currently items on the market that have stood the test of time.  The Coleman camping stove that uses butane canisters is a standard for the recreational and serious hikers and campers.  The question of redesigning this product to make it better or more efficient and it actually being wanted and well-received by the general public was essential to answer first.  Evaluating this provided the ...
